Keep the map useful

Been There is for reviewing places and discussing what it is like to visit or live there—not for targeting people.

Share honest experiences

Reviews may be positive, negative, political, personal, or complicated. Describe places, public institutions, governments, services, culture, and your own experience as clearly as you can. Disagreement is allowed.

Do not target people

No hate speech, threats, harassment, doxxing, impersonation, spam, manipulation, or instructions for violence. Do not name private individuals in accusations or publish private contact, identity, medical, financial, or location information.

Report; do not retaliate

Use the Report button when something breaks these rules. Three reports from three different signed-in accounts temporarily hide an item until it is reviewed. Reporting does not guarantee removal, and coordinated false reporting may lead to account restrictions.

Removal is recoverable

Content may be hidden or removed to protect the community, comply with lawful requests, or keep discussions relevant. Moderation actions are logged, and content can be restored when a mistake is found.

Automated safety review

New reviews and replies may be classified by an automated safety service. Items it flags are held from public view for human inspection; they are not automatically deleted. Only the text you submit is sent for this safety check.

Basic terms

You remain responsible for what you post and grant Been There permission to display it as part of the service. Do not manipulate votes, reports, or accounts. The service may limit submissions or suspend access when necessary and is provided without a guarantee that every review is accurate.
